mindless vandalism

couldn't get on with the life class today, but this is a drawing of a man in the nip, so it sort of counts...

Hangman

click for bigger

starting to put ideas and concepts together for the "Innsmouth" project idea. off to an admittedly confused start, think i've got some more ideas gathering to do and might also need to recover the book i gave away (sorry!).
this is a figure i drew to be part of a larger scene which i've not yet quite worked out. didn't make the inner lines dotted on this like i usually do, which was a mistake i think.

firespider

drawn with FIRE!
(and lemons)

i need to find a better developing method next time, maybe an iron, or sticking it over the log fire next time it's going. the candle method is a little patchy, also the other two pictures i made set alight...

...not to be tried at home kids.

forbidden fruit

once again, i post something which is technically college work, and not procrastination at all. however, i've been doing a fair bit of stuff that is not what i'm meant to be doing rencently, and it's seriously starting to dig into things i really should be getting on with. my logic, if i post a little of this stuff, i might get on with a great deal more of it.
this is a somewhat vague natural form, carved from the finest cuttlefish bone, or whatever the chalky layered stuff they're made out of is anyway.

pencils

One of two drawings I started today but didn't finish. As you can see, this started as a seated figure but, because I begun at about half 10 at night, when I couldn't get the legs to work I just cut them off. On the upside, for him, this means I've given this one a head to make up for it. I'll have a mull over what the rest of the scene might be and finish it in pen tomorrow.
I shall be fixing that left hand though, which took a while to get right, before I realised it was on back to front.

fisherman

first attempt at drawing with a dipping pen. fair few mistakes. turns out keeping the pen full isn't quite as important as keeping it clean. there are a few thick lines in this caused by fluff on the nib. i'll have a jay cloth on stand by next time. i'll see if i can dig out a "mapping nib" from the old bits and pieces i have kicking around also.
(on the plus's i'm am chuffed with how the body shape worked out)

something vaguely fishy

something doesn't satify me about this, maybe i'll try using the character in a drawing rather than just having him stand there, or maybe its the way i've rendered it. this is the rotaring again, which had come back to life thankfully. i should still buy and experiment with some dip pens though, i think i might prefer the line.

matchlight

things to do;
repair pen,
find good source of life poses,
gain patiance to hand shade things,
redraw this idea.

monkey

can't say i'm overly pleased with this, the monkey looks a little rubbish, i had to fight with my pen during the whole thing (hopefully i've not broken another rotering pen). and the overall idea is a bit "meh".

still, practice is practice.

infestation

my scanner didn't pick this up as well as i would have liked, so some photo fiddling was needed to make the lines nicely visible. still couldn't get them to show up as black though (not without getting all the veins to do the same anyway)

thought it might be easier on a green leaf, but it didn't quite work out, it was no easier or more difficult to draw, and it has flattened out for scanning better, but the colour is harder to see the back line against, and the shine on the leaf gets in the way.

the hunt continues.

something from my college sketchbook, which makes the drawing not technically procrastination, the childish layout on the other hand...
